UES Store To Close After 16 Years
The store is laying off all 31 members of its staff.
UPPER EAST SIDE, NY — It's the end of an era: The H&M store on East 86th Street and Lexington Avenue is closing and letting its entire staff go in the new year, according to state records.
The affordable clothing empire will close its 150 East 86th St. location on Jan. 19, laying off the 31 remaining staff members at the site, a posting on the New York Department of Labor's website shows.
The Upper East Side store had been open since 2008.

The state's Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification dashboard shows another store downtown on 18 Church St. will also close and lay off its 31 staffers on Jan. 19.
According to Fast Company, H&M closed 135 stores in the first three quarters of the year, representing 4 percent of its total stores.
