Unsuccessful Shoplifter Assaults 84-Year-Old East Sider: Police

A would-be shoplifter knocked over an 84-year-old woman as he was fleeing a Target on the Upper East Side on Saturday, officials said.

UPPER EAST SIDE, NY – An 84-year-old woman was walking near 188 East 86th Street on Saturday when she was knocked to the ground by a man running away from a nearby Target, police said.

The man had attempted to shoplift at the Target, according to authorities, and knocked the woman over as he was fleeing the store.

The woman was treated for her injuries by emergency responders at the scene, officials said.

The incident happened at about 12:45 p.m. on Nov. 16, and cops are asking for the public’s help as they work to identify a suspect.

No arrests have been made and an investigation is ongoing.
