Mystery Gunman Takes Shots At UES Building, Police Say

Two apartment windows at the high-rise One East River Place were shot out by an unknown gunman.

UPPER EAST SIDE, NY — Residents of an Upper East Side high-rise are on edge after two windows in the building were shot out by an unknown gunman, police said.

The shootings were aimed at the 50-story rental building One East River Place which borders the river on East 73rd Street, the NYPD said.

The first shooting happened overnight between Aug. 16 and Aug. 17, an NYPD spokesman said. A 68-year-old resident of a 14th-floor apartment in the building woke up Friday to discover her living room window shattered, police said.

Early the next morning, a 61-year-old woman woke up when a window in her 32nd-floor apartment was shot out, police said.

Bullet fragments were found at the both scenes and neither woman was injured, an NYPD spokesman said.

The New York Post quoted police sources saying they believed the shots were fire from an apartment on Roosevelt Island, across the East River.
