Wollman Rink Reopens For Holidays Under New Management: Photos

Under new, post-Trump management, Central Park's Wollman Rink reopened Sunday, with new clubhouse facilities and a focus on accessibility.

CENTRAL PARK, NY — Wollman Rink kicked off its post-Trump Organization era on Sunday as it welcomed back its first skaters in months and inaugurated a set of brand-new facilities.

The beloved skating rink near the southern end of Central Park is now under new management after the city severed ties with Trump in January over the then-president's role in the riot at the U.S. Capitol. The new operators are led by the megadeveloper Related, joined by the firm Harris Blitzer Sports & Entertainment and the gym Equinox, which is owned by Related.

The group has outfitted Wollman with a new clubhouse, renovated bathrooms, a new gift shop and a new ticket booth designed to ease congestion. A new kitchen and set of dining options are forthcoming.

Also new: a program offering discounted, $14 tickets at the start of each month, designed to make the rink more accessible.

The city's pick to take over Wollman Rink did not come without controversy. Leaders like Manhattan Borough President Gale Brewer had advocated for the contract to be awarded instead to the nonprofit Central Park Conservancy, and Brewer later took issue with Wollman's new contract along with Comptroller Scott Stringer.
