Land Rover Mounts UES Curb, Kills 84-Year-Old, Police Say

The woman was standing on the sidewalk of Madison Avenue and East 79th Street when she was hit by a vehicle making a left turn.

UPPER EAST SIDE, NY — A pedestrian standing on an Upper East Side sidewalk was killed Friday afternoon after being hit by a Land Rover that mounted a sidewalk, an NYPD spokesman said.

The 84-year-old woman, who was not identified, was struck while the Land Rover driver attempted to make a left turn at Madison Avenue and East 79th Street around 3:20 p.m., an NYPD spokesman said. EMS pronounced the woman dead at the scene, police said.

The vehicle came to a stop after colliding with scaffolding, police said.

The NYPD Highway Collision Investigation Squad was called to the scene and its investigation is ongoing, an NYPD spokesman said. Investigators do not suspect criminality and said the vehicle remained on the scene of the collision.
