'World’s Largest Menorah' Returns To 5th Ave For Hanukkah

The true miracle of Hanukkah — a massive, 36-foot tall menorah on Fifth Avenue.

UPPER EAST SIDE, NY — A beloved New York City holiday tradition is returning to the southern border of the Upper East Side this month.

The 36-foot-tall "World’s Largest Menorah" will be erected at Fifth Avenue and 59th Street — across from the Plaza Hotel — on Wednesday, Dec. 10 at 8 a.m.

The giant menorah, designed by artist Yaacov Agam and certified by Guinness World Records, will be lit every night of Hanukkah from Dec. 14–21. Each lighting includes music, dancing and traditional treats like sufganiyot, organized by the Lubavitch Youth Organization.

"May each of us be inspired by the Menorah’s light – which increases in number each night of Chanukah – to do even more in the realms of goodness and kindness, illuminating the lives of everyone personally, and of society at large," said Rabbi Yossi Butman, who leads the event.

The annual lighting has been a NYC staple since 1977 and is part of a worldwide Chabad effort that now brings more than 15,000 public menorahs to cities across 100 countries.
