2 Upper West Side Eateries Named Among Best BBQ Restaurants In NYC
You don't generally think about great barbecue spots on the UWS, but two local eateries were just named among NYC's best in the cuisine.

UPPER WEST SIDE, NY — Barbecue is a beloved cuisine, but not one that is typically associated with New York City.
A recent list from Eater New York, though, highlighted the 20 best barbecue eateries in the city, including two on the Upper West Side.
"Winter is upon us, and real hardwood barbecue beckons," reads an intro to the Eater NY list. "While we often associate it with summertime picnics, the smoky luxuriance of a pork rib or pink-ringed slice of fatty brisket is even more welcome on a frigid winter’s day."

Aus Jus opened in 2012 with a focus on roasted meats, sides, sandwiches, and homemade soups. Since then, the eatery has expanded its Oklahoma BBQ that included pork ribs, short ribs, brisket, pulled pork, pulled chicken, corned beef, coleslaw, pickled onions, and more.
The barbecue preparations can take 12 hours or more as they deploy a variety of family recipes.
Here's what Eater NY had to say about it.
"The hot links sandwich (tell them to hold the lettuce) is the number one thing to get, but the Sooner-style ribs and smoked bologna are also interesting, especially for barbecue enthusiasts jaded by the usual choices," Eater NY wrote.
The Aus Jus name means "with its own juice" in French.

Izzy's Smokehouse: 660 Amsterdam Ave. (Near West 92nd Street)
The celebrated kosher barbecue eatery has two other locations along with the UWS outpost, including a Miami spot that was just named the best BBQ eatery in the Florida city.
The menu serves up pulled beef egg rolls, smoked hot wings, smoked brisket tacos, half a BBQ chicken, sandwiches, a smattering of sides, and much more.
Here's what Eater NY had to say about the Upper West Side location.
"Recognizing the fundamental compatibility between Texas-style barbecue and kosher dietary laws, Izzy’s showcases luscious beef brisket with no lack of fat and humongous beef ribs, supplemented with a smoked and fried chicken sandwich and various sausages, tacos, and egg rolls," Eater NY wrote.
