Arrest Made After Woman Found Dead With Hands, Feet Tied On UWS: NYPD

Brooklyn resident Lashaw Mackey, 47, was arrested over the weekend and charged with murder and burglary, police said.

UPPER WEST SIDE, NY — A man has been arrested and charged with murder after a 74-year-old woman was found dead on Wednesday with her hands and feet tied within an Upper West Side apartment, police said over the weekend.

Along with the murder charge, Brooklyn resident Lashawn Mackey, 47, was also charged with two counts of burglary, police said.

An NYPD spokesperson told ABC7 that Mackey was a temporary worker in the building where Maria Hernandez lived in on West 83rd Street between Amsterdam and Columbus.

Mackey spent 20 years in jail after getting charged in 2000 on first-degree assault, the New York Post reported.

"She was an excellent human being," Hernandez's sister Maria Terrero told ABC7. "A wonderful lady. She's kind, loving, caring, everything you can imagine a nice, sweet person can be."
