Beloved UWS Bar Loses Its Sidewalk Shed After More Than 10 Years

UPPER WEST SIDE, NY — It was a momentous occasion on Friday as a popular Upper West Side bar had a special type of community celebration. After more than 10 years, the sidewalk shed outside of the Hi-Life Bar got taken down as more than 100 employees and regulars partied the night away.

The watering hole near the corner of West 83rd and Amsterdam Avenue threw a celebration with complimentary Hot Toddies to honor the removal of the scaffolding.

"We're taking the ugly metal braces off to show our Neon smile," Hi-Life wrote on its Instagram. "We're thanking our neighbors and beloved regulars in person for their support during the over a decade we've been hidden by the scaffolding shed."

Messages of support flooded in for the Upper West Side bar.

"HALLELUJAH," one patron wrote on its Instagram post.

"OMG, I've never seen it without the scaffolding," another person wrote among the multiple messages of "congrats" and "awesome."

Hi-Life is best known for its neon sign out front, its art-deco interior, and menu of burgers, steaks, hand-cut fries, pastas, clams, oysters, and raw bar.
