The Strand Bookstore To Open UWS Outpost In Book Culture's Spot

The famed store will take over the Columbus Avenue space that was home to Book Culture.

UPPER WEST SIDE, NY — Famed East Village book store The Strand is opening a new branch on the Upper West Side, moving into the space vacated when Book Culture which was forced to close last month.

The store announced it will be opening in March at 450 Columbus Ave, betwee 81st and 82nd streets.

"We are so excited to expand The Strand and engage the community of the Upper West Side," The Strand's owner, Nancy Bass Wyden, said on Instagram.

"We aim to continue the legacy of my father, and his father before him, by bringing the joy of books to everyone."

Book Culture closed in January after its landlord had it seized for unpaid rent.

"We are proud to continue the literary legacy of the space, previously home to indie bookshops Endicott Books and @bookculture," the Strand post continued.
