UPPER WEST SIDE, NY — Marshalls, the popular and low-cost department store, is closing its Upper West Side location in the coming months, a store manager confirmed to Patch on Wednesday.

The outpost at 2182 Broadway, between West 77th and 78th streets, will have its last day on March 25, and offer discounted sales on all items until its final shuttering.

The manager and an employee who spoke to Patch did not specify a reason for the closing, but ILoveTheUpperWestSide, which reported the story first, wrote that an employee at the location said it was closing "due to problems in the building, and closing for safety."

Patch tried to confirm this building safety issue, but there are no open 311 complaints about the address or any violations from OATH and ECB.

There are five open Department of Building violations, but four of them have to do with failure to file a required annual elevator inspection, a DOB spokesperson explained to Patch.

The remaining violation is a failure to file documents in connection to Local Law 11, which requires buildings to have their facades examined.

The DOB spokesperson could not point Patch to anything that might result in the building needing to be closed, but clarified that it could be an issued not reported to the city agency.

The Upper West Side location opened in the neighborhood in 2014.

Marshalls' shuttering follows the recent closing of the nearby DSW department store, North Face, and Best Buy.

The closest Marshalls to the Upper West Side is now either at 125th Street or near 14th Street.
