NORTH WANTAGH, NY — A car crashed into a tree and burst into flames on the northbound lanes of Wantagh State Parkway on Tuesday morning, firefighters said. The Wantagh Fire Department was called around 11 a.m. Tuesday to a car fire on the parkway, near the Southern State Parkway.

Safety officer and former chief George Krant found the vehicle completely engulfed in flames. As additional units and engines arrived, firefighters confirmed the driver safely got out.

Due to the extent of the blaze, a lack of water supply on the parkway and the components that made up the engine, firefighters brought in two hose lines.
