NASSAU COUNTY, NY — Republican State Assemblyman David McDonough is seeking re-election to New York State Assembly District 14. He is being opposed by Democratic challenger Ellen Lederer DeFrancesco.

Voters will head to the polls on Tuesday, Nov. 5.

McDonough has been a state assemblyman since 2002, when he represented the 19th District. He was voted as the 14th District's assemblyman in 2012.

Lederer DeFrancesco both filled out Q&A forms for Patch. McDonough has not yet responded to Patch's request to fill out a questionnaire.

Lederer DeFrancesco called McDonough a "career politician" and said she is running to "prioritize people over partisan politics. She described herself as a moderate candidate.

Lederer DeFrancesco's campaign, according to her answers on the Q&A, is built around making Long Island more affordable, improving water quality, restoring the SALT tax, targeting price gouging, supporting law enforcement and first responders, and consulting community members with more knowledge than her on certain issues.

NYS Assembly District 14 includes Bellmore, Merrick, Wantagh, Seaford, North Merrick, North Wantagh and North Bellmore.
