Heart Walk Set for Jones Beach Sunday

Six-year-old twins

Almost all of us have been touched by heart disease, and on Sunday we have a chance to fight it.

The annual Long Island Heart Walk, will take place at Jones Beach. Registration is at 8:30 a.m., while the walk gets underway at 10 a.m.

The event is sponsored by the American Heart Association and is designed to combat cardiovascular disease, the number one killer of Americans.

The Heart Association has also named twin six-year-old girls as "Red Cap Ambassadors" to the event.

Garbiella and Gianna Eaderoso are healthy, active girls who take part in gymnastics and cheerleading.  Yet they were both born with heart conditions.

One had Ectopic Atrial Tachycardia and the other Wolf’s Parkinson’s White Syndrome.  Both conditions involve the heart's electrical system.

But they've been medication free for almost three years.

The title "Red Cap Ambassador" comes from the practice of handing out red baseball caps to survivors of heart attacks, cardiac arrest or heart surgery. THey give out white caps to stroke survivors.
