Nassau BOCES Technicians Offer Complementary Manicures At Wantagh Library

The program will give trainees the chance to deliver manicures to community members as on-the-job training.

WANTAGH, NY. — South Shore residents will have the chance to get a free manicure at the Wantagh Public Library Thursday and Friday thanks to an effort by Nassau County Board of Cooperative Educational Services (BOCES) programs at Barry Tech and GC Tech.

The program will bring just over a dozen nail technicians into the library each day — with GC Tech cosmetology students in the library Thursday and Barry Tech students on Friday — to provide free manicures. Students are arriving at 11:30 a.m. Thursday and will remain at the library until 1 p.m., while free manicures will be offered from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. Friday.

"GC Tech is thrilled to partner with our local libraries, giving students meaningful opportunities to give back to the community,” GC Tech Principal Madelaine Hackett said. “These real-world, hands-on experiences help them build confidence, strengthen essential interpersonal skills, and refine their skills."

Library officials said the free manicure program can accommodate walk-ins but pre-registration at the library's website is preferred. As for what attendees can bring to the library, officials said a set of ready nails is all that’s needed.

“Hands ready to go, preferably washed, because it’s flu season,” one official said.
