Huge Crowd Turns Out To Celebrate Nassau Police's 100th Anniversary
"No one has ever in the country's history done just a police parade. Well, it happened here today," Police Commissioner Patrick Ryder said.
MINEOLA, NY — The Nassau County Police Department celebrated its 100th anniversary with a parade on Sunday.
Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman and Nassau County Police Commissioner Patrick Ryder joined the crowd, estimated to be 70,000, in Wantagh.
“We appreciate the men and women who keep us safe each and every day and remember those who died in the line of duty protecting our beautiful and great County,” Blakeman said. “Residents of Nassau County love their Police Department. May God bless them all and God bless America.”

The work of the Nassau County Police Department is a huge part of why Nassau County was named the safest county in America and the most desirable place to live in New York, the county executive said. Blakeman added that he plans to continue investing in local law enforcement to keep streets and residents safe.
“We are here for one reason, and one reason only: to recognize and thank the men and women who serve,” Ryder said. “The county executive said he wanted the biggest police parade in the country. No one has ever in the country’s history done just a police parade. Well, it happened here today.”
