Local Football Teams Kick Off 2012 Season This Weekend

Wantagh and Seaford open 2012 campaigns that they hope end in championship fashion.

Both the and varsity football teams kick off their 2012 seasons this weekend with eyes on bringing home a Long Island title at the end of November. 

Seaford opens Conference IV play in front of its home fans Friday night at 7 p.m. against neighborhood rival Island Trees. The Vikings are coming off a 5-4 season that ended with to Valley Stream North, which snapped a streak of four straight Conference IV titles. 

Wantagh begins its 2012 campaign Saturday afternoon at nearby Conference II opponent Calhoun starting at 1:30 p.m. The Warriors finished 2011 9-2 with both losses coming to Garden City, including in the  at Hofstra.
