Additionally, as a member of the Key Club he serves his community by participating in Breast Cancer and Alzheimer’s Walks, donating to local soup kitchens, helping elementary students with their homework at the LAP program, and supervising the Peer Tutoring program at MacArthur.
Adam was a student ambassador for People to People International. He was selected to participate in the 2010 Congressional Student Leadership Conference. He presented a speech about the implied obligations of the Constitution at the American Legion Constitution Speech Competition, submitted poetry to the PTSA Reflections contest and was a grassroots lobbyist for a local politician.

A gifted musician who plays the alto sax, contra alto clarinet, bass keyboard and piano, Adam demonstrates his finesse in every instrumental group in the school. He is in the Marching, Symphonic, and Concert Bands (Principal Saxophonist), the Symphony Orchestra, the Winter Wind Ensemble and the Jazz Ensemble. He won an Excellence Award for work with the Young Composer’s Club and has proudly joined his fellow Generals each year at the Newsday Marching Band Festival.
Outside of school, Adam has been named “Outstanding Band Musician” by the National Band Association, and was the Principal (with a solo!) in this year’s NMEA Division V All County Ensemble. He toured Europe last year with the American Music Abroad Empire Tour, and plays alto sax with the Nassau-Suffolk Concert Band, which performed two concerts at the Tilles Center. Adam is the Section Leader for the Gemini Youth Concert Winds, which recently headlined at the Adelphi Performing Arts Center. The GYO awarded him the Al Gallodoro Memorial Scholarship earlier this year for his role as the Principal Saxophonist, and he will join the group as Principal Chair at a special performance in Lincoln Center in May.
Adam will be attending New York University in the fall.
“It has been a lot of hard work, but there has definitely been incentive to maintain my average," Brulhardt said. “I feel comfortable with my friends because we all aim to excel, and we share common interests. We’ve taken advantage of extra-curricular activity as much as possible and in that way have really enjoyed our high school experience.”
