Santos, D'Esposito Have Most Vulnerable Seats In Congress: Report

Both Long Island races are listed as toss-ups for the 2024 election, according to Roll Call.

NASSAU COUNTY, NY — We're a year away from the next election and with the presidential race at the top of the ballot. But all seats in the House of Representatives will be on the line as well.

Political website Roll Call has put together a ranking of the most vulnerable races across the country.

George Santos' 3rd District is atop the list as a toss-up. Santos won the seat last year by 8 points.

Santos, a Republican, survived an expulsion vote but another potential one could be on the way after the House Ethics Committee releases its findings into Santos' investigation. The first termer recently told CNN that would run again even if he's expelled.

Santos isn't the only Long Island lawmaker facing an uphill challenge to win re-election.

Anthony D'Esposito also faces a toss-up scenario in his 4th District. The freshman Republican won in 2022 by a 4-point margin. The seat had been held by Democrat Kathleen Rice, who retired before the election. The race was vulnerable as a switch to Republican last year and now, according to Roll Call, the electorate could reverse itself back to Democrat.

"D’Esposito will have a tough time defending this seat, but he’s preparing for a competitive campaign," Roll Call said.

D'Esposito, a former NYPD detective could face a rematch against Laura Gillen, the former Hempstead Supervisor.

Patch attempted to get reaction from the D'Esposito and Santos camps.
