School Board Races on Tap for Wantagh and Seaford
Five candidates in two school districts file petitions to run for trustee seats prior to Monday's 5 p.m. deadline.
Both the Wantagh and Seaford school boards will have new faces come July after only one current trustee from the two districts filed petitions for next month's elections prior to Monday's 5 p.m. deadline.
In Wantagh, incumbent trustee Robert Leuchtmann opted not to seek a second term on the board. Leuchtmann has been serving as school board vice president since July.
"Due to increasing work obligations, including responsiblities out of state, I will not seek re-election to the Wantagh Board of Education," Leuchtmann said. "It has been a great pleasure to serve our schools and the community, and I am confident that we have a great future ahead of us."
The three candidates running to fill Leuchtmann's seat are Tony Greco, Stephen D'Amato and Peter Brasile. Both Greco and D'Amato have been involved with the Wantagh Budget Advisory Committee. Brasile is a founding member of the Wantagh Football Club youth program.
In Seaford, Jeanmarie Wink, who is principal at East Broadway Elementary School in the Levittown School District and was appointed to the school board this past October, is seeking a full term as trustee. Annalisa Siracusa Antonette, who along with Wink to the Seaford Board of Education as an interim trustee in October to replace Michael Sapraicone and John DelGuidice after they, did not submit paperwork to run next month.
Also running in Seaford's school board race this year is Susan Ruona, who also ran for trustee in 2010.
The top-vote getter between Wink and Ruona in the May 15 election will win a full three-year term on the board. The second place finisher will serve the remaining year of DelGuidice's unexpired term.
A Seaford Meet the Candidates Night previously scheduled for May 1 has been canceled by organizers since only two candidates are running for two seats.
