Seaford Football Opens 2012 in Convincing Fashion

With last November’s to Valley Stream North still fresh in their minds, the Seaford football team made a statement in its 2012 opener Friday night.

The Vikings jumped out to a 21-0 halftime lead against neighborhood rival Island Trees en route to a 41-0 win in front of the home fans at .

“This was a huge win for us to make a big statement,” said Seaford junior wide receiver/running back Kyle Kolodinsky, who scored four touchdowns including two on the ground and two through the air to go along with 104 all-purpose yards.

In addition to Kolodinsky, the Vikings explosive offense was keyed by senior running back Nick Fischetti, who rushed for 170 yards and one touchdown. The 5-8 180-pound Fischetti said he hopes Friday night’s win sets the tone for a successful season that leads to playoff games at Hofstra University’s Shuart Stadium in November.

“We want to get back to Hofstra where we belong eventually, but we’re taking it day by day,” Fischetti said. “Everyday at practice we’re getting a little bit better.”

Helping to pave the way for Kolodinsky and Fischetti’s offensive success in 2012 is 6-2 270-pound offensive tackle James O’Hagan. The junior lineman is is also a force at defensive tackle and registered nine tackles and a fumble recovery against Island Trees.

“My first two years I was kind of like the kid in the back because I was a freshman and sophomore but now that I’m a junior I need to step up a little bit more and try and will this team to a lot of victories,” said O’Hagan of his increased leadership role this season.

Last year, Seaford finished 5-4 and saw its 44-game Nassau County winning streak  and an end to a four-year streak of capturing the Conference IV title. The Vikings enter 2012 as the third ranked team in Conference IV behind Roosevelt and West Hempstead. 

Seaford is next in action this Saturday at Locust Valley starting at 1:30 p.m. where the Viking will try and erase the memories of last season’s to the North Shore school.
