Seaford Girl Named Winner in Astoria Federal Essay Contest
Eleven-year old Emily Tutaj selected as essay winner for bank's Seaford branch.
A Seaford girl was selected as a winner in Astoria Federal Savings’ sixth annual essay contest for children ages 5-12 in recognition of Financial Literacy Month.
Emily Tutaj, 11, was selected as winner in the bank’s , located on 3887 Merrick Rd. Tutaj’s winning essay describes how with her savings she plans to donate money to the needy and also use it to save the environment.
Tutaj, a student at, recently visited the Astoria Federal Seaford branch to receive her award including a $50 U.S. Savings Bond, a Teach Children to Save Certificate, and an Education First medal from Branch Manager Giovanna Schembri.

Astoria Federal received more than 1,300 essays from neighborhood branches throughout Nassau, Suffolk, Queens, Brooklyn and Westchester, a record for the bank’s annual contest.
