Seaford Man Charged With Boating While Intoxicated

A Seaford man was arrested by Marine Bureau police late Thursday night and charged with boating while intoxicated in Freeport.

According to police, Gerald Koenig, 44, of Seaford was observed operating a 23-foot 1990 Rinker southbound in the Woodcleft Canal over five miles per hour in a marked zone. A Nassau County Marine Bureau Unit was then forced to take evasive action in order to avoid a collision with Koenig’s vessel, according to police. Subsequent stop of the defendant’s vessel revealed he was operating under the influence of an alcoholic beverage.

Koenig was placed under arrest and was found to be in possession of oxycodone tablets. The vessel was removed by the Marine Bureau.

Koenig is charged with boating while intoxicated, seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and numerous violations of the New York State (NYS) Vehicle and Traffic Law and the NYS Navigational Law. He is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Hempstead today.
