Town Board Appoints New Councilman To Fill Carini's Death

WANTAGH, NY — Town of Hempstead Supervisor Don Clavin has appointed the person to fill a board vacancy following the death of Christopher Carini last month.

At the Town Board meeting on Tuesday, the appointment of Wantagh's Chris Schneider unanimously passed 6-0. He was immediately sworn in to represent the 5th Councilmanic District, which represents Lido Beach, Point Lookout, and parts of south shore towns from Freeport to Wantagh.

Schneider has long been a community leader in Wantagh and Seaford, and since 2022, he
has represented Seaford on the Nassau County Police Commissioner’s Community Council. He also has served on the 5th District Graffiti Watch Task Force.

Schneider has served as Trustee and Vice President of the Wantagh-Seaford Homeowners Association for nearly 20 years, and has served as a member of the Seaford Manor PTA.

"Councilman Carini was a tireless and dedicated advocate for the communities he
represented, and the 5th Councilman District was the beneficiary of the Councilman Carini’s
work. His passing was truly tragic, and he is sorely missed. It is my goal to continue his legacy
of effectiveness, hard work and caring," Schneider said.

A special election to fill the remainder of the term will take place on Nov. 5. Kevan Abrahams, a former Democratic Nassau County Legislator, announced on Monday that is running for the seat this fall.
