Wantagh 4th Of July Parade Will Not Happen This Year

Organizers said they made the decision because the safety and well-being of participants and spectators is their main concern.

WANTAGH, NY — The annual Wantagh Fourth of July parade has been canceled, adding to a list of countless other celebrations and parades that have been nixed due to the coronavirus outbreak.

In a letter to the community, the Wantagh Fourth of July Parade Committee said the event was canceled due to the pandemic, which has sickened over 356,000 New Yorkers, including 284 confirmed cases in Wantagh, 168 in North Wantagh and 225 in Seaford as of Friday morning.

"Due to the state's guidelines because of the COVID-19 Pandemic, the committee has voted to cancel the 2020 July 4th Parade," organizers said. "We did this regrettably, but the safety & well-being of the parade participants and spectators must be our main concern."
