Nassau Convenience Store Break-In: Cigarettes, Gift Cards Stolen

Police say the thief remains on the loose.

WANTAGH, NY — Police are investigating after they said someone broke into a Wantagh store and stole cigarettes and gift cards.

Around 1:45 a.m. Monday, Nassau County police were sent to a drive-through convenience store on Wantagh Avenue, near Merrick Road, for a report of a break-in. Investigators determined someone broke in through a door on the south side of the building. Video cameras caught the person taking cigarette packs and gift cards, police said.

The suspect was wearing a long sleeve jacket, a baseball-style hat, black gloves and a backpack at the time. The person, whose gender wasn't immediately known, fled on a bicycle and was last seen heading north on Willow Street.
