Wantagh Firefighters Honor Fallen Soldiers On Memorial Day

WANTAGH, NY — Members of the Wantagh Fire Department ran along Wantagh Avenue on Memorial Day while displaying American and department flags.

Firefighters Tim Nimal and Anthony Forgione carried the American and U.S. Marine Corps. flags in honor of their service in the Marines, officials said. Lt. Tom Melendez carried the Wantagh Fire Department flag and Time Burke, son of T. Steve Burke, carried a U.S. Army flag.

They received an escort along Wantagh Avenue by several fire department vehicles and were led by Chemical 3, driven by former Capt. Steven Schuman, Jr.

They then gathered in front of Wantagh American Legion Post No. 1273 to recognize the sacrifices of those in the Nation’s armed forces who died protecting American freedom.
