Weigh in on School Board and Testing
Some school districts have passed resolutions calling on the state to rethink their reliance on testing. Should Wantagh pass such a resolution?

At a recent Wantagh school board meeting, some parents expressed dismay over the amount of testing their children have to take.
It's a complaint that's being heard in several areas around Long Island and around the state.
Critics of standardized tests feel they're too long and taxing for children, that they create a cookie cutter approach to education. They also feel that he implementation of the Common Core Standards in New York has created an over-reliance on testing causing teachers to spend too much time on test preparation since the results will affect their performance review.
Supporters of the Common Core standards say that the standards are designed to prepare more students for college and allow them to compete better with students around the world.
Several school boards have passed resolutions asking state education officials to re-think their reliance on testing.
