What's Open and Closed for Columbus Day 2013

Monday is a federal holiday.

Monday is Columbus Day, which commemorates the anniversary of Christopher Columbus' landing in the Americas. It is a federal state and local holiday.

Here's a look at what's opened and what's closed:

  • Public Schools are closed in both Wantagh and in Seaford.
  • Both the Wantagh and Seaford Public Library are closed.
  • All federal, state and local government offices are closed, including the Department of Motor Vehicles and the county courts.
  • There is no U.S. Postal Service delivery.
  • Town of Hempstead offices are closed as are senior centers.
  • There will be no Sanitation pickupp. THose scheduled for Sanitation pickup Monday will receive it on Tuesday.
  • Some banks are closed, but have the option to stay open.
  • he Long Island Rail Road generally operates on a normal schedule on Columbus Day.
