Monday is Columbus Day, which commemorates the anniversary of Christopher Columbus' landing in the Americas. It is a federal state and local holiday.
Here's a look at what's opened and what's closed:
- Public Schools are closed in both Wantagh and in Seaford.
- Both the Wantagh and Seaford Public Library are closed.
- All federal, state and local government offices are closed, including the Department of Motor Vehicles and the county courts.
- There is no U.S. Postal Service delivery.
- Town of Hempstead offices are closed as are senior centers.
- There will be no Sanitation pickupp. THose scheduled for Sanitation pickup Monday will receive it on Tuesday.
- Some banks are closed, but have the option to stay open.
- he Long Island Rail Road generally operates on a normal schedule on Columbus Day.
