Zwanger Pesiri Breaks Ground on Levittown Facility
The new nearby radiology center will be located at the former site of the Israel Community Center at 3235 Hempstead Turnpike.
Town of Hempstead officials and Zwanger-Pesiri representatives joined together this past Thursday morning to celebrate the groundbreaking of Zwanger's newest radiology facility in nearby Levittown.
Zwanger-Pesiri is planning its new facility on 3235 Hempstead Turnpike at the site of the former Israel Community Center, which closed in 2008 and was demolished two years ago. The closest current Zwanger-Pesiri facility to the Wantagh-Seaford area is located on 126 Hicksville Road in Massapequa. The Levittown location will be a full-service facility offering x-rays, MRIs, 3D mammography and biopsy procedures.
Cathryn Masci, Architectural Planner for Zwanger-Pesiri, was in charge of designing the new building, located on the piece of land in the heart of Levittown.
"We wanted the outside to portray the quality of technology that’s on the inside, in our equipment, MRIs, CT Scans," said Cathryn Masci, who was in charge of designing the new building. "We wanted the building to be a state of the art building, just like our equipment is."
The entire lot will be occupied by Zwanger-Pesiri, leaving ample parking space available for customers. The company expects to begin construction as early as June 1, with the anticipated opening to come in Spring of next year, Masci said.
The new facility could provide a boost to the local economy, providing new jobs and a "trickle-down" effect for nearby businesses.
"It says a lot to the community and different businesses that are here," Masci said. "If Zwanger comes, then it must be a viable place to do business."
Town of Hempstead Supervisor Kate Murray and Councilman Gary Hudes, R-Levittown, joined Zwanger-Pesiri at the property Thursday to celebrate the groundbreaking and offered their support.
"The development of this property which has been vacant for so long is worth celebrating," Murray said. "That an innovative and thriving business such as Zwanger-Pesiri has chosen to come to Levittown makes this even better."
Joining Murray and Hudes were Zwanger-Pesiri owners Steven Mendelsohn and Susan-Zwanger Mendelsohn, who said they are very excited to join the Levittown community.
