4 Village Buildings Face Landmarks Panel Ahead Of Changes

Developers of four Greenwich Village properties will face the Landmarks Commission before the end of the month to approve building changes.

GREENWICH VILLAGE, NY — Each month the Landmarks Preservation Commission hears multiple applications for construction changes to landmarked buildings and properties within historic districts across New York City.

Due to the above-average number of landmarked buildings and historic districts in Lower Manhattan, Greenwich Village properties are routinely the subject of attention at these city hearings.

Here is a roundup of the Greenwich Village landmarked buildings that still have applications going in front of the Preservation Commission in the final weeks of November to approve potential changes to the property.

312-314 Bleecker Street

The 312-314 Bleecker Street building, located at the corner of Bleecker Street and Grove Street, is part of the Greenwich Village Historic District. The application getting presented to the Landmarks Preservation Commission is to modify a rear yard extension, install a gate in the existing garden fall, and modify a door opening.

9 St. Luke's Place

The 9 St. Luke's Place building, located between West 4th Street and 7th Avenue South, is part of the Greenwich Village Historic District.

The application getting presented to the Landmarks Preservation Commission is to build a 3-story addition to the rear of the house, a penthouse and new mechanical equipment on the roof, new windows on all the facades, refurbish the adjacent sidewalk, and excavate the cellar and backyard.

3 Sheridan Square

The 3 Sheridan Square building, located between Grove Street and Barrow Street, is part of the Greenwich Village Historic District.

The application getting presented to the Landmarks Preservation Commission is to establish a "Master Plan" in concern to a new window installation.

396 West Street

The 396 West Street building, located at the corner of West Street and 10th Street, is part of the Weehawken Street Historic District.

The application getting presented to the Landmarks Preservation Commission is to construct a rooftop addition and to relocate the floor area from the first floor, which is below flood level, to a level that is flood code compliant.
