The building was originally constructed in 1908 and operated as a silk factory, before eventually being converted into a condominium in 1982.
Cher moved into the apartment in the early 80s, before selling it in 1990 to record executive Russell Simmons for $1.6 million.

Spears eventually moved into the apartment for four years and combined an adjacent unit to make the space larger.
Spears reportedly wrote her hit song "Toxic" in the apartment.
Keith Richards has also lived in the building.
A listing for the apartment says that the apartment has 12-foot ceilings, a wood-burning fireplace, a 400-foot outdoor terrace with views of Greenwich Village, and a master bedroom.
The entire apartment has nine total rooms and is 3,785 square feet in size.
