WEST VILLAGE, NY — The newest park on the Hudson River is looking close to the finish line, according to reports.

Gansevoort Peninsula, located on solid land at West 13th Street across the West Side Highway from the Whitney Museum, is a five-and-a-half acre site that will bring a sports field, boardwalks, a kayak launch, a dog run, fitness areas as well as bathrooms and a concession area to the neighborhood.

Plus, the park will also have Manhattan's first public beach, abutted by a resilient rocky shoreline.

With the planning process dating back to 2019, New York YIMBY reports that the construction appears to be making significant strides.

The development blog reports that landscaping appears to be well underway, with trees, shrubs and topsoil all in place. Additionally, seating, canopies and lights and other infrastructure for the sports field have been installed.

Closer to shore, the pavilion structure, future home to bathrooms and concessions, appears to have walls and a roof, according to the site, while another section is still being framed.

While no opening date could be confirmed, the Daily Beast reported in January that it could be open by the end of the summer.
