WEST VILLAGE, NY — Steve Cohen, the billionaire hedge fund manager and owner of the New York Mets, is finally almost finished with his West Village townhouse mansion that began construction in 2012, according to the New York Post.

The Lower Manhattan compound combines a townhouse at 145 Perry Street and an adjacent building at 703 Washington Street into a single property.

The Washington Street section of the home is just for Cohen's children.

The New York Mets owner bought the 145 Perry Street townhouse in 2012 for $28.8 million, following it up with a $38.8 million purchase of 703 Washington Street the same year, according to sales records.

“It’s not what we thought was appropriate for the neighborhood,” Andrew Berman, executive director of the Greenwich Village Historical Preservation Commission, told the NY Post. “The city criticizes us and our neighborhood for a lack of affordable housing and then approves megamansions. The mayor is speaking out of both sides of his mouth.”

It is not the first time that the super-rich have combined townhouses to make fortress-like properties in the West Village.

In recent years, celebrity couple Sarah Jessica Parker and Mathew Broderick paid $34 million to combine two adjacent townhouses on West 11th Street.

A block away, Facebook co-founder Sean Parker owns three townhouses on West 10th Street that he spent millions on renovating into one property.
