Pushback On Proposed New Six-Story Building In Greenwich Village
The Landmarks Preservation Commission is reviewing the proposal of a new six-story building at 15 Greenwich Avenue next week.

WEST VILLAGE, NY — The community organization Village Preservation "strongly opposes" the design for a new six-story building in Greenwich Village that would replace a one-story property at the address.
Demolition permits were filed in June for 15 Greenwich Avenue, which most recently housed the Chinese restaurant Niu and is within the Greenwich Village Historic District. A new building permit was filed earlier in the year at the location for a 7,193-square-foot mixed-use building.
The Landmarks Preservation Commission will consider the design for the new six-story building on July 20.

"The monotonous, single-pane windowed, concrete paneled design bears no relationship to the surrounding historic buildings or district, and should not be approved," wrote Village Preservation, an organization dedicated to documenting, celebrating, and preserving the architectural and cultural heritage of Greenwich Village, the West Village, the East Village, and NoHo, in an email.

According to permits, the new building would be 63-feet-tall and have 4,033 square feet of residential space and 1,139 square feet of commercial space.
