West Village $20M Townhouse Tops Luxury Sale List: Report
This West 12th Street five bedroom townhouse was the most expensive listing to sell last week, according to a market report.

WEST VILLAGE, NY — Despite a hefty price cut, this West Village townhouse topped the luxury real estate sales last week, according to a market report.
The five-bedroom, three-bathroom townhouse at 118 West 12th Street sold for nearly $20 million, making it the priciest sale last week in the luxury real estate market, according to Olshan's Luxury Market Report.
Originally listed in June 2022 for just under $30 million, the 6,600-square-foot four-story townhouse topped the list by just $50,000 — even after a hefty $10 million price reduction.

Featuring ornate details throughout, the circa 1847 townhouse was totally renovated in 2021. The airy kitchen features high-end appliances, marble countertops, gold-colored hardware and a shiplap ceiling — all in a mostly monochromatic modern sheen.
That's one of the many dramatic changes from when the building was owned by artist Roy Lichtenstein’s son, Mitchell Lichtenstein, who sold it back in 2021 after calling it home with his husband, Vincent Sanchez, for over 20 years, city records show.

Photos from a New York Times feature on the listing show a much more humble but functional lime-green kitchen and rooms filled with artwork by Mitchell's famous father.
He first bought the building with his father in 1997 for $2.52 million from art dealer Jason McCoy, according to city records, the same year that Roy Lichtenstein died.
When Mitchell Lichtenstein initially listed the townhouse in 2017 for $25 million, it was the first time the property had been publicly for sale in 170 years, according to the website 6sqft.com.
In addition to the four years the property sat on the market, the townhouse also took a perhaps foreshadowing $10 million price cut and ultimately sold for about $15 million to Neidlich LLC, records show.
