West Village Is the Most 'Coveted' Neighborhood In Manhattan: Data

A report posted Wednesday looked at the most searched neighborhoods in New York City. The West Village topped the list.

WEST VILLAGE, NY — Don't let it go to your heads West Villagers, but the neighborhood just got named the most coveted in Manhattan.

StreetEasy, a website decided to New York City's housing market, published a list Wednesday of the "most-dreamed about" neighborhoods in the five boroughs for 2022.

The most dreamed about nabe in Manhattan? The West Village.

StreetEasy determined the most coveted neighborhoods by looking through its search volume data of sales and rentals by neighborhood in the summer of 2022.

Here are the top five for Manhattan.

  • West Village: Median Asking Rent in Summer of 2022 — $4,895
  • Greenwich Village: Median Asking Rent in Summer of 2022 — $4,500
  • Chelsea: Median Asking Rent in Summer of 2022 — $4,995
  • SoHo: Median Asking Rent in Summer of 2022 — $4,750
  • Gramercy Park: Median Asking Rent in Summer of 2022 — $4,500

The top five most searched neighborhoods in the borough were all in Lower Manhattan. The pricy neighborhoods also all had median rents this summer of at least $4,500.

In terms of buying a home in the West Village, the median asking price in the summer of 2022 was $1.497 million.

The West Village has actually topped StreetEasy's list of Manhattan's most-searched for neighborhoods for five consecutive years.

"It’s no big surprise that Manhattan’s most-searched neighborhoods are also the dreamiest," writes Elena Lathrop of StreetEasy. "Who wouldn’t want to live the boho-chic life in the West Village or Greenwich Village, be near the High Line in Chelsea, own a classic SoHo loft, or have a shot at getting a key to Gramercy Park?"
