The five-story townhouse at 50 W. 12th St. that used to be owned by David Byrne of the Talking Heads is listed for $17 million.
" Currently occupied by another artist, it’s a haven for creatives thanks to its in-house artist studio and 'magical' treehouse," reads a recent StreetEasy post about the townhouse. "That’s right, you get a treehouse along with your townhouse."

The house was built in 1854, has five wood-burning fireplaces, five bedrooms, 6 and a half bathrooms, a roof deck, and a private terrace.
The current seller of the townhouse built the treehouse a little over 10 years ago for her daughters out of a broad-trunked London Plane tree in their backyard.
The treehouse did not come without its drama, though, as her neighbors ended up calling in a complaint about the construction happening without a permit, reported the New York Post at the time.
A long legal battle ensued.
In the end, the Landmarks Preservation Commission decided to give the treehouse a permit because it's part of a historic district and because the townhouse itself was built in 1865.
