Cops: TD Bank Robber Caught

A 29-year-old Selden man has been charged in connection with the robbery that took place on Sept. 10.

Southampton Town Police say they have charged at 29-year-old Selden man in connection with a bank robbery that took place at TD Bank in Hampton Bays on Sept. 10.

According to Detective Sergeant Lisa A. Costa, Donnell Thomas, 29, was found hiding out at a residence on Hawthorne Street in Mastic on Tuesday morning. He was arrested without incident and charged with robbery in the third degree, a felony.

Police say on Sept. 10 Thomas handed a bank teller a note, reading “I have a gun, give me the money or die!!” Police say the teller complied and the man fled on foot with over a thousand dollars. He was last seen headed south on East Tiana Road.

The police said they received a panic alarm at 4:40 p.m. and a 911 call shortly after from a teller. Police said that officers were on scene within minutes and searched the area with help from a New York State police K-9 unit, but the robber was gone.

Thomas, police said, was caught with the help of the United States Marshal Service/New York, New Jersey Regional Fugitive Task Force.

Thomas was scheduled to be arraigned at 1 p.m.
