East Hampton Man Charged With DWI After Crashing Into Sign, Fence, Light Post: Police

He was arrested in Hampton Bays, police say.

HAMPTON BAYS, NY — An East Hampton man was charged with driving while intoxicated after crashing into a crosswalk sign, fence, and light post in Hampton Bays, police said.

According to Southampton Town police, the single-vehicle crash took place on Wednesday, June 25 at about 12:03 a.m. off the roadway of East Montauk Highway, near the intersection of Squiretown Road, in Hampton Bays.

Southampton Town police responded and, upon further investigation, determined that the driver, Jender Chamba-Camacho, 25, was operating the vehicle while intoxicated; it was also found that the vehicle’s registration was suspended, police said. No injuries were reported, police said.

Chamba-Camacho was arrested and transported to Southampton Town police headquarters for
processing; he was charged with two counts of misdemeanor DWI and issued a summons for operating with a suspended registration, police said.

He was held overnight to appear in Southampton Town Justice Court for morning arraignment, police said.
