Man Charged With Assault After Kicking Someone In Head, Leaving Them Unconscious: Police
Hampton Bays Middle School was on lockdown Wednesday as officials searched for the man after the assault, police say.
HAMPTON BAYS, NY — A man was arrested after kicking another person in the head, leaving them unconscious in Hampton Bays, police said.
According to Southampton Town police, the incident took place Wednesday at about 3:40 p.m. at the intersection of Ponquogue Avenue and Periwinkle Lane; a report came in about a man unconscious on the ground after he was kicked by another male, police said.
Southampton Town police patrol units, community response units and detectives, as well as New York State Troopers, responded to the area, police said.

Hampton Bays Volunteer Ambulance Corps responded to treat the unconscious male, police said. Suffolk County police aviation was requested due to the nature of his injuries, police said.
The Hampton Bays Fire Department assisted in securing the landing zone for the helicopter and the man was transported to Stony Brook University Hospital for treatment, police said.

The suspect fled the area prior to police arrival; an extensive search was conducted using Southampton Village K-9, Southampton Town police patrol, CRU officers and detectives, and the Southampton Town drone unit, police said.
Hampton Bays Middle School was placed on lockdown as a precaution, police said.
At about 6:13 p.m., the man was located walking on Shinnecock Lane; he was detained and transported to Southampton Town police headquarters, police said.
Jamall E. Thomas, 28, of Hampton Bays, was subsequently arrested and charged with second-degree assault, a felony, police said. He was processed and held overnight for morning arraignment, police said.
