Motorcyclist Seriously Injured After Crashing Into Constuction Vehicle On LIE: PD

The Riverhead man was seriously injured in the Manorville crash Sunday night, police say.

MANORVILLE, NY —A motorcyclist was seriously injured after crashing into a construction vehicle in Manorville Sunday night, police said.

According to Suffolk County police, the incident took place on the eastbound Long Island Expressway, west of Exit 69, at about 8:50 p.m.

Bruce Bihary, 71, of Riverhead, was operating a 2011 Can-Am motorcycle eastbound on the Long Island Expressway, west of Exit 69, when he crashed into the attenuator portion of a Department of Transportation 2017 Hino truck that was closing traffic for construction on the highway, police said.

Bihary was airlifted via police helicopter to Stony Brook University Hospital in serious condition, police said. The driver of the Hino truck, a 38-year-old Shirley man, was not injured, police said.

The motorcycle was impounded for a safety check; members of the Motor Carrier Safety Section responded and conducted a safety check of the Hino at the scene, police said.
