Westhampton Beach To Show School Pride With Steve Boone

The district will hold a homecoming bonfire at 7 p.m. and induct Boone into their hall of fame on Friday morning.

It's that time of year again — when students set out to generate some school spirit and pride. Both the Westhampton Beach and Hampton Bays School districts have scheduled their respective homecoming activities and dates.

will kick off its homecoming events with a pep rally and bonfire at 7 p.m. Then, on Friday, the district will induct Westhampton graduate Steve Boone into their hall of fame at a ceremony at 11:00 a.m.

According to the district, Boone, who graduated in 1961, was in the electric jug band The Lovin’ Spoonful, which had their first hit record “Do You Believe in Magic” in 1965. Boone also co-wrote, in 1966 the band's biggest hit, "Summer in the City."

Also on Friday, the high school will hold their annual parade down Main Street at 4 p.m. with a football game against Harborfields High School to follow at 6:30 p.m.

will hold its homecoming on Oct. 19 with pep rally at 7 p.m. and a bonfire at 9 p.m. The festivities will continue on Oct. 20 with a parade, a 2:00 pm football game against Wyandanch and a homecoming dance at 7:00 p.m.
