Woman Arrested After Driving While Intoxicated With 15-Year-Old In Car In Hamptons: Police

HAMPTON BAYS, NY — A Hampton Bays woman was arrested Saturday after she was caught driving while intoxicated with a 15-year-old in the vehicle, police said.

According to Southampton Town police, the incident took place at 4:56 p.m. when an officer on patrol saw a 2001 Toyota Sienna failing to yield the right of way to traffic on Springville Road in Hampton Bays.

A traffic stop was conducted and further investigation found that Leidi L. Santos Hernandez, 38, was operating the vehicle while intoxicated condition with the 15-year-old passenger in the vehicle, police said.

She was arrested at the scene and then transported to Southampton Town police headquarters for processing; she was charged with aggravated driving while intoxicated/Leandra’s Law, a felony; endangering the welfare of a child, a misdemeanor; and failure to yield the right of way, a violation, police said.

She was held overnight for arraignment at Southampton Town Justice Court, police said.
