Alcohol Testing Kits Available to Parents at Pre-Prom Meeting

Meeting starts at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in the West Islip high School Auditorium.

Parents attending Tuesday night's Pre-Prom meeting at the high school will also be able to pick up free alcohol testing kits.

The kits detect alcohol in a saliva sample, and come with a color-coded chart which indicates how much, if any, alcohol is present.

“It’s a simple test that parents can use to demonstrate to their kids that they mean business and that they won’t condone alcohol use by their teens on prom night, or at any time,” said Suffolk Sheriff Vincent DeMarco, who visited West Islip High School Tuesday morning to deliver the tests.

The alcohol test kits were purchased with money seized from drug dealers, according to a statement from DeMarco.

The meeting begins at 7:30 p.m. in the high school auditorium.
