Alumni Report: Track & Field Stars Run Strong

Weekly column highlights athletic accomplishments of West Islip graduates.

Track & Field

• At Susquehanna’s Jim Taylor Invitational Ali Foote of Bucknell finished fifth in the 3,000m steeplechase with a time of 11:52.14.

• RPI opened its Track & Field season strong and West Islip’s David Kastner jumped into action with a victory in the 110m hurdles with a time of 15.36.

• In Louisiana State’s Battle on the Bayou, University of Connecticut’s Joe Clark won the 3,000m race with a time of 8:28.26. He finished fifth in the 1,500m with a time of 3:49.58.

• Farmingdale State Junior Joanna Pavone broke the school's record in the Pole Vault at the Ramapo Roadrunner Invitational, with a vault of 2.80m or 9-feet 2 1/4-inches. The former school record, held by Kara Grech since 2006, was 8-feet 8-inches. 

Lacrosse

Ian Braddish of Hofstra had a goal and an assist in the Pride’s 9-5 win over Dartmouth on Tuesday, April 3.

• Pete Gonzalez of SUNY Cobleskill had a goal and an assist in the school’s 15-3 loss to Morrisville State on Thursday. 

• Farmingdale State’s Dan Cozier had a goal in the Rams 9-4 loss to No. 15 Wesleyan.

Mike Johnson scored three goals for Maritime College in the Privateers 10-9 victory over Manhattanville.

Mike Sagl had an assist in Quinnipiac’s 15-5 victory over Wagner on Saturday.

Eddie Plompen scored a goal for C.W. Post but the Pioneers lost to Lake Erie 8-7 on Saturday.

• Goalie Alyssa Costantino made three saves in the first half of Syracuse’s 16-10 win over No. 9 Notre Dame on Thursday. On Monday, Costantino had seven first-half saves as the Orange defeated Dartmouth 22-4. Throughout the season Costantino has been sharing playing time with Kelsey Richardson.

In the Dartmouth game, freshman Loren Ziegler scored her first goal of the season.

• Adelphi’s women’s lacrosse team continues to have a strong season, and two West Islip graduates continue to make major contributions. In Adelphi’s 19-7 win over Stonehill on Saturday, Devan Crimi had six points (2G, 4A) and Sara Sangiorgio had four goals.

Softball

• It was a good week for Rebecca Richman of Farmingdale State. In a doubleheader vs. Baruch, Richman went 2-for-4 with 2 RBI and a run scored in game one and 1-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored in game two. In game one of a double-header against John Jay, Richman went 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored. On the season, Richman is hitting .328 with one home run and 20 RBI.
