Beach Street Students Honor Veterans
Middle school encourages staff and students to display photos of family members who served.

In recognition of Veterans Day, staff and students at West Islip’s Beach Street Middle School were encouraged to bring in photographs of family members, friends and neighbors who have served in the U.S. armed forces, which were then prominently displayed in the school’s Wall of Honor showcase.
“This was a way to honor all of the men and women who have served to protect our country’s values and way of life, and at the same time, show our students that these men and women are actually people in our community and part of our families,” said Principal Andrew O’Farrell. “We believe that visually displaying veterans, who are directly connected to the Beach Street students, on the Wall of Honor makes the significance of Veterans Day relevant and helps the students understand that it is every citizen’s responsibility to protect our freedom.”
