Generous Donation to Benefit Good Sam Dialysis Patients
Helen Dodd left part of her estate to help suffering dialysis patients receive treatment.
Good Samaritan Hospital recently announced that they have received a generous donation from the late Helen K. Dodd, a lifelong Long Islander, that will go exclusively toward the care of dialysis patients.
Funds from Dodd's estate will be used to buy 24 new dialysis units, which will be installed at Good Samaritan’s Chronic Dialysis Center in Bay Shore. The center is responsible for over 30,000 treatments annually and provides lifesaving services to many residents who are financially unstable.

The hospital said that Dodd was always committed to alleviating suffering patients, especially those who cannot afford treatment themselves.
“This area has a large population of dialysis patients," said Administrative Director of Good Samaritan’s Department of Dialysis Patricia Hansen, RN. "They are often in need of additional support in dealing with their chronic illness."

According to Good Sam, kidney patients at the hospital are generally treated by certified registered nurses, dialysis technicians and LPNs, all of which are all skilled in renal therapy.
