Good Samaritan Recognized For Stroke, Heart Failure Treatments

recently received the Get With the Guidelines (GWTG) Gold Plus and Gold Performance Achievement awards from the American Heart Association (AHA)/American Stroke Association.

As a New York State Designated Stroke Center, the hospital offers treatments needed in an emergency along with stroke prevention services that include free screenings and lectures. GWTG provides hospital staff with proven protocols to use when caring for heart failure patients. 

According to the AHA, 5.7 million Americans suffer from heart failure annually, and more than 300,000 people die as a result. Good Samaritan was the first facility on the south shore of Suffolk County to offer elective angioplasty and cardiac rehabilitation and is partnering with St. Francis Hospital, The Heart Center, to bring its cardiac surgical program to the region. 

“Our staff is dedicated to providing the best care for stroke and heart failure patients in the country.  Implementing the Get With The Guidelines protocols helps us to accomplish this,” said Nancy Simmons, Good Samaritan’s Executive Vice President and Chief Administrative Officer.

According to hospital officials, the awards show that Good Samaritan has achieved and sustained 85 percent or higher adherence to all GWTG Heart Failure and Stroke Performance Achievement indicators over a 24-month, consecutive interval and 75 percent or higher compliance with 6 of 10 Stroke Quality Measures over a 24-month, consecutive interval.
