Talk Back: Thoughts About Losing Winter Break
West Islip students will lose four days in February to make up for those lost from Sandy.

On Nov. 27, The West Islip Board of Education, at the reccomendation of Superintendent Richard Simon, voted unanimously to cut winter break short by four days to account for instructional days lost following Supertstorm Sandy.
West Islip Schools will be open Tuesday, Feb. 19 through Friday, Feb. 22. Those days were originally planned as a break. An additional day will be made up on May 24.
Since parents and students anticipate the long winter break, we'd like to know if you agree with the decision. Did you have anything special planned for the break? Do you plan to send your child to school those days? Or did the school district simply have no other choice in the face of losing so many days following Hurricane Sandy?
